Rio Olympics Highlights : The First Olympic Athletes in the City

Rio Olympics

Rio Olympics Highlights : The First Olympic Athletes in the City. The first Olympic athletes were the heroes of their city. After winning in the games against the best the other city states could field, they were set for life – their glory (and well being) assured. She embodies the true spirit of the games and should be rewarded accordingly.

I hope the athletes from team GB do really well. I also hope the kiwis and ozzies do as well. Generally the men and women competing are not in this for the mammon.

But I will not watch any of it. I didn’t realize until recently that the opening ceremony in London cost £27,000,000. That’s just the opening ceremony. In China in 2008, total cost of the opening ceremony, $100,000,000. Again, just opening ceremony.

I find it obscene that while people are dying in the streets in Rio, infant mortality in the faceless at an all time high, crime and forced prostitution at record levels and a corrupt police force doing nothing to tackle this, the Brazilian government which is in financial dire straight have pissed all this money up the wall on a two week sporting event.

There needs to be an adjustment on what we value in the world. The money in sport could be better spent on local events, local sports venues. Even if half we wasted on events like this was invested at a local level, the world would be a better place.

And don’t get me started on the BBC sending legions of reporters to cover the games. Even Look North has sent people. The TV tax well spent and a bloody farmer who normally presents the One Show. Is he there to cover cow racing?

Sport has become a decadent sin. Soccer, Fifa, Olympics, Winter Olympics is all money and that’s why the Russians were cheating with state support.

This is not about the country where one lives or is a citizen of; this is about human rights and dignity. If you are from the USA, be sure to encourage anyway you can your nations athletes. But the money wasted on this is now so epic people of morals should now start to question why we watch it? While we watch it, we subscribe to it that means fat cats are getting fatter on it.

Be proud of where you are from, but also speak out for what is right. You have a friend here.

I agree with you. Look how sports have become. It is corrupted now. At least a space program will inspire young kids and gives us job employments. What does this Olympic investments will do? After rio Olympics those stadiums will become dump yards.

It’s because people are starting to recognize they are being manipulated by nonstop propaganda like this piece. I’m stoked that she got to live her dream, though, despite these horrible wars, but that’s not what this piece was for. Its purpose is manipulation. Our governments and their media lapdogs are seriously sick

This girl showed us that with determination and hard work you can overcome any adversity. The lesson for all that are fearful of refugees, that the majorities are decent human beings who through no fault of their own, asking for our help.

This girl was born to a Christian family in Syria, she is one of those who HAD to leave the country because you know what happens to infidels with the Ms in charge, let me know when one of the Ms made the refugees team, wait there won’t be any because they only use the “refugee” identity to conquer Christian lands, and their only life goals are to breed and spread the religion of piece

If you know anything about Syria you will know that the people consider themselves Arab first, Syrian second, their religion is none of your business! All live side by side and respect each other as fellow Syrians. More than can be said for many so called developed countries.

Christians and all other groups who just want to live a normal life are victims of a terrible struggle for power. The war in Syria is not a civil war but a war where a regime that thinks it owns the country and its people would literately rather see it destroyed than give up power. Many families in Syria are mixed and now find themselves torn in a battle for power that isn’t theirs. It is unfortunately the civilians who ultimately pay the high price.

This girl showed us that with determination and hard work you can overcome any adversity. The lesson for all that are fearful of refugees, that the majorities are decent human beings who through no fault of their own, asking for our help.
